Cyril Scott Pipe Band

CYRIL SCOTT PIPE BAND is a traditional Scottish style pipe band. The Band has performed with the Chieftains in 2008, 2009 and in 2010, the Ohio State Marching Band during half time shows, including the Fiesta Bowl, the Columbus Symphony, the Columbus Pops Orchestra and at Huntington Park for the Columbus Clippers. The band is a perennial favorite at the Dublin Irish Festival, held in Dublin Ohio every first weekend in August.

For the past few years the Cyril Scott Pipe band has been concentrating on teaching and training new pipers and drummers and crafting our public shows.  More recently, the band has begun competing around the Mid-West.  Going as far as Chicago and as near as Lorain County, the band competes five to six times during the year, May through September.  All of the individual members are also encouraged to compete in solo events and all who have competed have brought home medals!

In 2008 the band began offering free bagpipe lessons in the central Ohio area. In 2009 we started to offer free drumming lessons. As a result, the band has a growing number of young musicians that we see as the future of the band.

CSPB NEWS

The Cyril Scott Pipes and Drums Band (CSPB) finished the 2014 competition season with a strong showing at the Ligonier Highland Games held in Ligonier, PA. The band ranked first in ensemble and placed second overall out of nine bands.

Overall the band placed first at the Edinboro Highland Games and Scottish Festival held in Edinboro, PA including first in Grade V(5) drum line. While at the Ohio Scottish Games held in Wellington, OH Cyril Scott placed second overall. Currently they rank 8th out of 101 bands in the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association (EUSPBA)’s 2014 Event Results and Standings.

Bands are judged on piping, drums, and ensemble. The judges take into consideration tone, crispness of the notes/movements, tempo, and unison. One wrong note or out of tune drone can make the difference between first and last place in the highly competitive world of bagpipe band contests.
